Film girato velocemente sulla scia di Casablanca. Anche qui un trio, Rita Hayworth Gilda, Glenn Ford (Jhonny Farrell) e l'ariano George McReady (Ballin Mundson).
Con tutte le debite proporzioni mi sembra un film inferiore al gemello di Curtiz, non tanto per l'accartocciarsi della storia su sč stessa, quanto per la mancanza di coraggio nel fare sfociare l'amicizia virile tra Johnny e Ballin in qualcosa di "diverso" e in questo finale incollato a forza, modello "e tutti vissero felici e contenti...". Resta la grande interpretazione di Rita Hayworth che riesce ad elevare i livelli di testosterone sfilandosi un solo guanto.
